The bombing of two hotels in the south is blamed on Abu Sayyaf, and assistance Abu Sayyaf has received from the bin Laden organization. The bombs caused little damage and no casualties. Abu Sayyaf has been making such attacks for months to try and take the pressure off the army search for the main Abu Sayyaf groups on the islands of Jolo and Basilan.
