On Basilan, a grenade was thrown at the house of a former presidential adviser. There were no injuries. Elsewhere on the island, troops clashed with Abu Sayyaf, killing and wounding several. American air reconnaissance has been very helpful in locating and tracking Abu Sayyaf. The US is using a lot of heat sensing and electronic monitoring equipment. The Abu Sayyaf have cooking fires and use portable radios to communicate. 

An army patrol found an NPA training camp 20 kilometers from the capital.
