The United States is now offering a reward of five million dollars each for the top five leaders of Abu Sayyaf. This far exceeds the $20,000 rewards the Philippine government has offered. Each of the five are believed to be leading separate groups of rebels on Basilan island. Meanwhile, on Basilan island, two American Special Forces helicopters (HH-60 Pave Hawks) were fired on by Abu Sayyaf, and the helicopters returned fire.
