 The governor of the Sulu Island Group and three companions were wounded in an Abu Sayyaf ambush on Jolo. His bodyguards fought back and one of the fleeing Abu Sayyaf were believed to be killed.  In the south, the army attacked the home of a MILF leader, leaving eight rebels and four soldiers dead. On Basilan. US troops turned over a rebuilt airstrip and prepared to leave after a six month assignment. Also on Basilan, Abu Sayyaf rebels seized, tortured and killed a civilian suspected of being an informer.
