Over the last two weeks, 149 NPA rebels surrendered, most of them citing the hardship of living in the bush. The army has been increasing it's search for NPA camps in the mountains, and has been finding and destroying them. This makes the NPA, who lived there, homeless. The government has been offering NPA rebels amnesty and assistance in re-entering civilian life.
