Responding to the government ceasefire, the MILF rebels went on the attack, destroying a number of electrical transmission towers and depriving thousands of electrical power. Some seventy people have been killing in the fighting so far, and over 30,000 civilians have fled their homes to avoid the fighting. The peace deal with the MILF is now in tatters, mainly because the rebels could not control all their factions, particularly the ones that were engaged in banditry on the side.
