The army believes there will be more fighting between factions in the Communist Party and its military wing, the NPA. Already, a rival organization, the RHB, has split from the NPA. In the past, the NPA has had bloody purges, that led to hundreds of communists being executed for "treason." The NPA has taken a major beating since it became recognized as a terrorist organization. This cut off a lot of the money it raised overseas, or received from leftist organizations in Europe. This is a side effect of the global war on terror.
