Calls for president Arroyo to resign have proved insufficient to make it happen. Arroyo has been accused of corruption and incompetence, but this is nothing new with Filipino presidents. The armed forces and the church have continued to back Arroyo, and not enough of the population has been willing to come out onto the streets against her.
