September 11, 2011: On September 11, 2001, StrategyPage had already been covering the Afghan war for two years. You can see this coverage at 1999, 2000, and 2001.

The Taliban have taken advantage of the assassination attempt on Ahmad Masood to launch an attack on Northern Alliance positions north of Kabul. Some ground was gained, but Northern Alliance counterattacks took it all back.
