The SU-27 is a 1980Âs era Soviet aircraft. It has similar weapons capabilities as the F-15 and F-14 but is more maneuverable. Like the F-15 it has gone through several iterations including a carrier version. The SU-27 is alleged to be the first aircraft to perform the cobra maneuver. As seen in the video the cobra is a maneuver where the aircraft Âs nose raises to the vertical while continuing forward and gaining limited additional altitude but slowing the forward motion of the aircraft. The aircraft finishes the maneuver by dropping the nose back to the horizontal and continues forward. Whether this is actually a valuable combat maneuver is much debated in the fighter pilot community. But it does look cool.
