Coast Guard Rescues Father and Son

The Coast Guard rescued an 11-year-old boy and his father caught in the surf near Pacific City, Ore., Friday. An HH-65C Dolphin helicopter crew from Air Station North Bend, Ore. was notified at 1 p.m. and arrived on scene at approximately 1:20 p.m. The crew spotted two people in the surf and lowered a rescue swimmer. The boy and his father were hoisted to the helicopter and transported to Tillamook County General Hospital in Tillamook, Ore. This is the fourth case of people being caught in the surf in this area in the past 48 hours. Large waves along the Washington and Oregon State coast attract many beach goers and surfers. These seemingly ideal conditions can also place people in great danger. Strong rip currents and frigid temperatures can be deadly. The Coast Guard encourages people to use extreme caution when entering the water in the Pacific Northwest. Produced by Petty Officer 3rd Class Nate Littlejon.
