Hey, that is really great to hear. You mean may of '08 though don't you?

Based on our little exchanges of the past, I believe that you will make a fine officer and will be a real credit to the Corps and the USA!

My mistake, May of '08 is correct.  Thank you again for all your help.  I am still playing junior college basketball, its my last year at Cochise.  This year is going to be  great,  coach is endowing me with so much responsibility.  I am going to learn alot about leadership this year first hand.  Hope all is well.  If you have any advice for me, I'd love to hear it as always.
Thanks again.

Have you decided on your MOS's that you'll put in for?

If its anything like the 1980s he wont have to decide until about half way through TBS.  PLC or OCS is generally much too soon to even think much about it, unless one wants to be a aviator.

He was interested in going FR back when we first talked, which was pretty restricted to Grunt or Intel Officers.  But he was interested in I believe Engineering and somethingelse, Arty I think.

However, now w/ MARSOC he can lead teams in an MSOC and the MSOAG, as an Unrestricted Ground Officer.

Which opens his list of potential MOS's.  I not sure if he knows it or not.

I am going to put in for infantry, I would love to go Recon eventually, Nathaniel Flick did it, why cant I?  However, for now that is not my main concern, I just want to be a Marine and serve.  I read, One Bullet Away, by Nathaniel Flick, he said that whomever graduates at the head of the class gets to pick his MOS.  I plan on being number one, also my friend, a corpsman, is station in San Diego, while speaking with butter bars over there he told me that the Corps is in need of infantry officers currently, does anyone have any insight to this?  Also what should I work on before going to OCS?  I plan on having a perfect pft by May, I'm still playing college basketball so thats keeping me in superb shape, and grades up, 3.5.  My Ssgt. is going to give me a package after first semester to study, but he hasnt told me what is in it?  Should I know the Core Values and be able to, word for word restate everything on the ocs.usmc.mil web site?  I read alot and work out more, pull ups are in the 20's, my 3 mile is around 21 minutes right now, as soon as basketball season is over and I can start training for long distances that will be at 18 minutes, and cruches are easy.  Any and all help is much appreciated.

Thanks again for everything

There's a good 5wk work up for the assessment process for MARSOC at the bottom of the RSAS pdf. on ; However the info  on the 'hikes' won't really help until TBS.

But fr/ the Plt Coms that I knew they said to be assertive and very proactive if you want to be selected as an Infantry Officer.  Constantly take charge and show leadership, thats what they're looking for in an Inf Off, and you should be fine.

Your coming in at probably the best time to be a Inf Plt Cmdr ever.

If DO is implemented as planned every Inf Plt Cmdr will be trained and certified to control aircraft and direct strikes as JTACs.

Every Plt Cmdr will be tactically trained to the level Company Cdrs were trained to a few yrs ago.

Every boot Lt and E5 Sgt will be assigned one of 24 regions of the world to study and specialize in w/ language, cultural, and human & physical terrain training.
