Yes Although there may be something newer in some units. The Russian navy is in a state of near collapse. My guess is the Naval Infantry are much neglected.

No. Naval Infantry are one of the few units to have received funding and one of the few special operations units not to have been bled dry in Afghanistan and Chechnya etc. Naval Infantry are currently Russia's most capable special operations force.

Yes the rest of their navy is in rag order, but apparently the Naval Inf are pretty strong! Heard the USN was creating some naval infantry now that their wayward children, the US Marines, have irrevocably parted ways...

I heard they still do use the Pt-76 in limited numbers but a trying to replace them all with T-80s. And as for them getting to the beach didn't they have a exercise of that order with China near Valdivostok(sp)?

The Russians only sent about 1,800 troops to that exercise. MOstly aviation and command and staff level, the Chinese sent 10,000. It was far from the huge show of force the media tried to play it up as.

I wonder who the theoretical enemy was susposed to be in that exercise?

>"I wonder who the theoretical enemy was susposed to be in that exercise?"< Perhaps a small Island nation that is approximately 100 miles off of the coast of one of the Blue team members?

Hey! I was in the other sides version of that exerrcise, back in 1985. Yama Sakura (spelling?) or 'Cherry Mountain' in English. We spent two weeks in a army size map ex. driving the little commie game pieces away from the coast of Hokkaido. Captain Sickenger & I amused ourselves working out the details of conducting a 40+ gun artillery raid. Ah the golden days of youth.
