Subject: Assessing leadership potential with personality tests
garbrafk    5/11/2012 6:30:51 AM
Personality psychology is a particular interest of mine and I have been doing some research on the use of personality tests in military selection. It seems a pretty dodgy field, for example personality tests such as the Thematic Apperception Test which have very tenuous reliability are in common use (not so much anymore though), while validated personality systems such as that of the big five personality traits (e.g. big five personality test) are ignored, which is bad because it has been studied and been found to be valid (see this research article). I am of the opinion though that since all personality tests can be faked they should just be not used at all. Background checks should be sufficient.
