Subject: Help with Border Control/Security Research

Hi--new poster to this board. I was hoping maybe you guys could help me out. I just started at a new job, and my first task was compiling a report on the economic conditions and investment climates in a few countries in North Africa. I did a good enough job that my boss decided he wanted me full time on research on his pet project--which has to do with border security. Without getting into too much detail, he wants me to become an expert on the history of border control strategies/technology/etc, and eventually learn and be able to speak authoritatively on the current practices (in border control) of basically every country in Africa. Eventually my specific focus will be on the use of light fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters, but right now I need a broad knowledge base. Thing is, I dont' really know where to start in researching this stuff. I've gone to the library and photo-copied some stuff from Jane's Defense Weekly, but that's mostly news and presumes an already-present background that I don't yet have. I also found a couple articles on the Rand website and the Brookings Institute website, but nothing very substantial (as of yet, at least). If anyone could help me out with some links to some nice open-sources on this type of stuff, be it military strategy in general (with stuff on border control), borders in particular, or, best, border control in Africa, I'd really appreciate it. And in a few months, when I'm well versed in all this stuff and have been to these African countries and talked with their heads of Customs and such, I can bring back some intersting stories for this website. Heh. Thanks in advance!
