Skylark    Right back at you, chump.   11/18/2012 12:25:19 AM

Lame, projection-laced reply from "American God"  in 5... 4... 3... 2...

Oh, and if you can manage to get past two sentences without mentioning George W Bush, or parroting slogans like "Obama-killed-Osama", you will be way ahead of the usual crowd I take to school at Politico on a daily basis.

...1...

**FYI, the first part of my comment got severed... not the first time, in case anyone at SP cares... soooo. to recap..

Fair enough, "American God", tell me where the focus of the current administration is right now, viz Benghazi?  Getting to the bottom of how our ambassador was left out to dry in the midst of hostile forces without the backup he repeatedly asked for, but was also repeatedly denied, or covering it up with bogus fables about youtube videos to the thunderous applause of Mr. Obama's tame media?  Ready...? Go!

Urgh...

Whenever you get conspiracy goons a thread always rapidly goes south..

Some part of the human psyche in the absence of supporting evidence makes it attractive to involve oneself in an "intellectual elite" of enlightened minds, it provides a degree of comfort for those whose faculties do not extend to understanding the complex geopolitical environment and its rather less exciting/mysterious implications.

In other words, it serves a quasi-religious 'comfort blanket' function whilst also appealing to egoism - but I must confess it is particularly delightful to see someone recommending "V for vendetta" as a means of discovering 'the truth', quite sweet in an aspergery sort of way..

The internet is a pretty fine example of how the inmates always end up running the asylum, Reactive. In Cyberspace, no one can hear you think, they can only hear you scream and see how crazy you can be.

And anyone who is on Politico on a daily basis.... I am so, very, very, sorry. Are there simply no real hobbies in your part of the world? Something productive, like knitting, perhaps?

In America we have two main political parties. This means we have one bunch of piggish degenerate rascals who deserve to hung from lampposts on the side of the road, which conveniently enough, leaves the other side free for the other bunch.

Skylark    Sorry I asked...   11/18/2012 1:00:19 PM
'sigh'  I guess I was mistaken when I concluded "American God" had anything resembling an intellect.

I state my opinion on a topic at hand... AG writes that I should be locked up, simply for having an opinion...

I ask for some clarification... AG resorts to name calling.

That's fine, I guess.  However, I thought this was a forum based on ideas, opinion and debate.  If I punctured that happy little bubble of whatever you call reality, with any concepts that run counter to that reality, I do apologize.   In retrospect, I will admit to a certain amount of over-reaction on my part.  When someone makes a suggestion that people be locked up for expressing an opinion, you will forgive me a certain amount of rancor in my response.  You didn't refute my ideas, you attacked the messenger and I have a problem with that.  I called you out, in the hopes of spurring a debate, but it is obvious that foreign policy, political reality and thinking strategically is not your strong suit.  Sorry I asked.  Later on, we can discuss something that is more your speed; such as a comparative discussion of Velcro over zippers.  In the meantime, I will leave you to your knitting.

Comprehension. And humor. They are difficult concepts.

When you progress beyond "Pig-Monkey Numba One is Teh Evol, and My Pig-Monkey Numba Two Iz Duh Bestest!", there could be a basis for a conversation. Until then, I'll keep voting Libertarian. So long, and thanks for all the fish.

Right back atcha, "American God".  I never thought that a discussion about nuclear terrorism qualified as "humor", but I will accept your analysis for what it is.  Here's hoping that the happy little bubble you dwell within never pops and your information continues to be pre-chewed and well filtered.  New perspectives are to the naive, what air-born pathogens are to the immunely challenged.  If you breath too deeply, something might pop into your head that upsets the delicate balance that defines your reality.

Given this is degenerating I'd like to simply reiterate the comment below (made by tonofonseca).

The danger doesn't come from some Taliban goatherder getting control of the nukes.  The real danger comes from some commander within the Pakistani military, who goes rogue, and decides to work alongside Islamic terrorists.  He either smuggles them out into their hands somehow, and they take them to where they want to use it, or, he uses them immediately himself on India.

The Pakistani state is particularly fragmented between civilian government and the military, worse still the military is also sharply divided in terms of their 'vision' for Pakistan as an entity - given the amount of time that Pakistan has spent since being governed by those who took power through coups it's not unreasonable to imagine that it could easily happen again.

Which is why Pakistan receives aid, the prospect and implications of having to 'disarm' a failed Pakistani state does not bear thinking about, for that reason, and despite the fact that many elements of the state (ISI included) are actively working against US interests it is seen as better to try and maintain some degree of influence over events, supporting the fragile democratic process there must seem to be the option with the least risk. It's basically the exact sort of nightmare the US (and others) want to avoid with Iran. There's absolutely no reason to assume that the next successful coup will resemble the rule of Musharraf, especially with the growing popular support for parties that we rightly classify as extremist.

It's a delicate situation with unpredictable outcomes, the status-quo is therefore maintained insofar as is possible.

This parallels a comment I made elsewhere about ultra-nationalist military juntists leading nation's into disaster.

There is a reason why militaries should be the servants of sane political parliamentary systems.

Win, lose, or draw, the civilian politicians have just enough imagination to understand limits-like an angry electorate.

Imagine a maniac pretend general like some Tojo or Stalin with an atomic bomb.

There was a reason Colin Powell went to see Musharif on a general to general courtesy visit with an "or-else" message.

B.

P.s. I am more worried about the Pakistanis than I am the Iranians. The Pakistanis (especially their military) are enemies of the United States. Many of them have absolutely no grip on physical reality at all. While the Iranian Ayatollahs talk a good hate game, they ARE politicians, and materialist realists who are well aware that they govern a volatile heavily westernized and well-educated technocratic polity, that knows what a sham the current Iran regime's talk really is. They will not risk crossing the red line.

Sort of like China in some regards Iran is, a fascist state with a ruling political (religious cleric) class who have no plans nor desire to commit suicide by sparking a popular revolution.
