Dear Mr. Tucci,

>>>
The reason why the Swiss citizenry can and do tolerate a higher rate of direct taxation ("34.9% of its GDP, vs. 22% for the USA") is that their currency is nowhere near as subject to "official" counterfeiting as is the U.S. Federal Reserve Note.  They can seewhat and how their governments spend at every level.  By contrast, its deliberately made extremely difficult for the average American - meaning most of the voters - to perceive the far higher rates of predation upon their substance perpetrated by our "public servants."

It seems there's always an excuse.  Mr. Visigoth's premise was pretty simple: lower tax rates leave more $ for the private sector which = better economic performance.

It's a lovely idea; the only problem with it is that there's no evidence for it. Check out the CIA Factbook and find me a country that anyone would want to live in that has a lower tax rate than the US.

If you read Bob Slayton's piece you'd see an overview of tax history in the US from the 20s to the present. High top tax rates were in effect during periods of superior economic growth; lower tax rates correlate with periods of lower economic performance, culminating in the disaster of 2008.

Meanwhile you hold up Switzerland as a model even though the Swiss seem freely to have rejected Visigoth's premise and are better for it.

I get why all that stuff you champion has appeal, but it doesn't make it real. A lot of people like unicorns but that doesn't mean we should be expending our resources building saddles for them, or condemning the world because most people go about their lives as best they can without them.
