>>And the diesel engine is safer in real combat.<< How, exactly, is a diesel 'safer' in real combat? Safer than what? The M1's turbine? Safer? The M1 uses the same fuel that American military diesels use, if you had some image of a tank filled up to the gills with some especially combustible jet fuel. If by 'safer' you mean 'more reliable' I'd question this -- M1s operating in the Arabian desert and Iraq have had excellent reliability rates. >>It uses a gun tied for first place, but has an autoloader, so it can fire two rounds to our one.<< I'm really not believing this. See the thread on engagement times elsewhere on this site. Autoloaders, even on 120mm armed tanks, are struggling to match the performance of a human loader. The autoloader does not get exhausted, of course, but unless your tank is in some sort of improbable static, direct-fire bombardment role this doesn't really matter. >>The tank is the Type 90 of Japan.<< I'm not seeing it. Type 90 is an okay tank using very modern technology. Some of its features are innovative, but none are sophisticated or novel to the point that other tanks suffer for their absence. Japan's constitution bars the design from export, but even if it were available, I don't think it would do particularly well.

''it can be defeated simply be delaying the detonation time for the second warhead.'' Thats why the new frontal armor on the leopard is hallow! I know the MAIN ARMOR is laminated and has air layers between it,but im talking about the rarmor in front of it!

STRV 122 isn't a German tank retiredcanadiantanker, there are lots of parts and electronic equipment from Hugglands vehicles,mike-golf,the Leopard2A6 hasn't got the new Top-Armor,thats the STRV 122 a Swedisch Leopard(S) The Leopard2A6EX has the top-armor,but this is a ''showmodel'' tanks,leopard2A6EX isn't in use in any army in the world.

Huh? When did I say that the 122 was a German tank?

Until I see the results of live firing, and get to read an informed opinion, the Type 90 will not be on my list of top tanks. The very thought of a two stroke diesel makes me shudder! No-one will be able to tell me that this engine is superior to any other available engine out there!

This isn't going to do much of anything, even if it is true. First off, most ATGM's are top attack now, with dual/tandem warheads. Second, if you built it with a big enough hollow space to be worthwhile against modern ATGM's then the tank's size would be outrageous. By the way, the Leo2A6 does have improved top armor, although it may not be up to the level demonstrated on the in non-production models.

The Leopard2A5 has better top-armor,the top-armor of the A6 is the same as the one on the A5. Question for Mike_Golf: Do you think that the extra armor on the side of the Leopard2A5/A6 turret is hallow armor???

Jeffrey wrote: "Question for Mike_Golf: Do you think that the extra armor on the side of the Leopard2A5/A6 turret is hallow armor??" I don't know what it is .... when you posted about it I wracked my brains trying to figure out how it would work and can't see what value hollow armor brings to the table. Here's the issues: 1. "Hollow Armor" would do absolutely nothing to defeat a long rod penetrator. 2. Current generation ATGM's are top attack, so this armor doesn't apply either. 3. Frontal attack missiles are generally obsolete and can't penetrate modern armor anyhow. 4. Air launched missiles will be overwhelming even so, it's not really possible with current technology to carry enough armor on a mobile platform to defeat missiles launched from a helicopter or plane. So, I am just having a hard time seeing what value "hollow armor" would bring, even if that's what it is.

french stratege    Could idea: check carefully Leclerc capabilities   2/22/2004 11:27:13 AM
An American armore General visiting france Leclerc regiment said that the French crews could really be proud of their tanks. I still rank Leclerc first (for autoloader of leclerc it take 3 second to recharge) close to STR122 and Leopoard2A6.

I give you the answer, because ive seen it,because when you replace the engine you must bend this extra armor packages aside, tan you can see there is nothing inside. BUt i guess yu are right, hallow armor is useless,im sorry that 200 people of KMW have workked about than years on the Leopard2A5 tank design, but in all those years 200 people have worked there brains out to come up with the most clever armor that they could make and ONE American ''retiredtanker'' is saying to them that the armor on the Leopard would be useless when it is hallow,im sorry that you know it better than those 200 people !
