C'mon.

Sounds like  a scare tactic.

I'd give you odds we already have something like this up there.
A system like this would be useful against satellites too.
C'mon.

Sounds like  a scare tactic.

I wish.  Even as a prototype.  But could we keep such a system under wraps?  Consider. Foggy Bottom a/k/a “Leakville.”  The Chinese imaging our sats with lasers.  Etc.  It should be out there as rumor and I’ve not heard anything on the subject.  I do believe we have some well-fueled sacrificial lambs up there for use against other sats, but these wouldn’t be effective against low maneuvering buses given short notice.  Pleased to be wrong on this one in keeping with my custom . . . got something to share? ;>)

Understand what you mean about foggy arse pit....
But there are parts of the military that can do things on the QT.
Just ask any sub sailor, and they won't tell you
How many sucessful SEAL missions have you heard about?
The payload of any military launch (including mundane ones like GPS)
could easily be something else or be a part of a dual payload.   After
launch only a few people would even be able to tell.
Take something as uninteresting as the Minotaur launch on Dec 11.  Who
really knows what's really in the front end of it.... At the rate at which we are launching
them who knows, be easy to sneak something by the press.  http://www.spaceflightnow.com/tracking/index.html
These are launches in the public domain.  Who knows what a Trident sub does in
mid ocean.
Imagine if I wasn't wearing my tin foil hat all day !!!
