I think for this forum to survive people need to realize that other cultures and opinons need respect, I've being reading now for about 2 years and at one point it was a real eye opener for me and I spent many day just looking for info and people views on subjects. But now with people like 'Herold' it's turned into a quagmire and no resonable debate is found. I'm British and I understand that Britain is not top dog but other people on the board need to realize the world changes. Rather than be stuck in your ways why not treat peoples view with respect and if you don't agree reply in a calm and adult way rather than posting offending comments. I think it will be an advantage for everyone.

I agree.  There were several long time posters who were bullied away from Strategypage who added more to this site then they were created for.

oh no not a good forumhttp://www.strategypage.com/CuteSoft_Client/CuteEditor/Images/emcry.gif" align="absMiddle" border="0" alt="" /> we have had problems but most of it is I want to usurp you type stuff. I like it when there is something to talk about but with a war going on there is little I find to say because it might hurt the troops.

Sincerely,

Keith

Plus, there's only so many times that most people can stomach one of those, "Who's the best, SBS or SEALS?" type threads.  That will do more to kill forum participation than anything.

Nothing killed a good forum faster than the contant twisting of every post - no matter the subject - into a debate about the RAFALE fighter jet.  I'll bet there were  threads started on how bad MREs taste that one of the twins turned into a rant on how great Rafale is.

We have a one now who turns every post - his and others - into a debate about himelf as well as one who posts such silly "what ifs" as to be a screen writer for the next M. Night Shyamalan movie.

If you want good conduct and content - the only way to do so is to provide it (byo) and ignore the spikers.

And 90% of the reason that many long-time knowledgeable posters have faded away.

Back in the good old days there were many, many different perspectives and while this site was pro-American and bend to the right, all the shades were present. Slowly the Right Opinion became more prevalent and bigger part of the opposition was made of flamers while those who put real effort into their posts diminished... Besides, too much of bad behaviour, racist crap and insults are tolerated if I am asked.

Its certainly my reason for not getting too much into specifics anymore. Why invest the effort into expressing an opinion with any detail when you wont get any responses in kind or when the responses you do get are so full of personal insults? My 2 cents.
