Subject: US Army adopting Multicam

I know this has been brought up before and discussed, however I have just seen "Multicam" gear in the PX at Bragg along with a Mannequin fully kitted out in the stuff with a placard exlaining "Multicam - Multi Enviroment Camoflage Pattern to replace ACU beginning XXXX" I guess its official!!! Anyone know of an official statement regarding this? A quick Google revealed nothing more than speculation on various other mil related forums. Regards Arty

OH BOY here we go again. When I reenlisted a few years ago I was issued ACU's just at the tail end of the DCU stage. I still have my BDUs too...lol. I always had the feeling that the ACU was cool but more of an temporary thing. I haven't heard anything official but if this is true, it would not surprise me. Good grief though.

Just a few ACU gripes. It's freaking too delicate!!! The crotch and arse of it wears out way too fast. Not only that, but the Velcro...well, imagine you are trying to be quiet moving next to a battle buddy and your shoulders touch. The Velcro makes noise! Also, the pant cargo pockets need a zipper or buttons for more secure hold. The velcro will come open if you have to run or low crawl. Or even sitting in a humvee. As far as effectiveness. Well, it's OK, but it is certainly a compromise. It's too light for foliage that's for sure. Not that much of an issue at longer range but as people get closer they will see you in you are trying to hide in the bushes.

Asked around today regarding "Multicam"  the word on the street so to speak is that the first Units at Bragg will start to transition over to Multicam by the end of this year.  Total Army transition to be complete by 2012 so its not exactly happening overnight.

LOL. Is this the "Joe Hotline" or official? I just did a search in AKO and no joy. Next is to ask the thieving cabal of supply sergeants I know. I still have a few contacts who are in the sand box. They are usually up on things like this. One time I had to go to a place when I was performing liason duties for a unit coming in country. Well they had some uniform issues so I took them to CIF/RFI building and inside were these manequins with weird(at the time) looking uniforms that had "shirts" rather than the typical blouse. It was meant to be worn under the armor in order to keep people cooler. That stuff eventually got issued out. There were other uniforms and kit there too and I was told they were trial prototypes and not standard issue. If only I could remember the DoD contractors name! I bet they would know right away.

Its the "Joe Hotline" at its finest ;) !!!!!!!!  However Im not talking some little E-2 or E-3.  Its a CPT I know who is with 3rd SFG as their Fires Liason Officer or whatever the billet is called.  So a reasonably trustworthy source.  But you are right I cant find anything "Official" either.  Im definitely going to hit the PX and get a pic so you can be sure Im not making this up ;)
