Subject: The coming G-2 ---China US alliance
Necromancer    5/14/2009 2:03:51 PM
US is the world's largest debtor China is the creditor. US is the world's leading military tech, China wants that. China needs land, Taiwan, etc etc. The logical evolution is a joint Sino-US global hegemony as Russia France UK or India (the other "Big" powers) can barely be qualified to be viable disrupters. Instead of a cold war Sino US rivalry will be synergestic call it "Cold fusion" not war.

So you are saying the US should ally themselves with China in order to encourage them to commit aggression against their neighbors?

That does not seem right.

Its China whowas less for the G2, US was kind of yielding to it due to the current financil woes. The US value system is a little compromisable at this point, if u note Hillary etc did not raise much issues with China's human rights, and Dalai Lama is being rejected by many key leaders, plus Bush jr was at the Olympics. Its China who is calling the shots in the short-term. There were plenty of posts by Nanyagrouchen regarding US turning a blind eye to China so you may search his posts for a clearer view into the current situation.

There is a world of difference between trying to influence a government and allying with them, so which are we talking about?

All of the items you list are influence related, not signs of an alliance.  Influencing is a like trading with limited funds, you have to give something of value to get something you value more.  Unfortunately you can not afford everything you want so you have to prioritize.  Human rights are a nice idea, but at the moment North Korea, Afghanistan, and, yes, the current financial woes have priority.  So we have to be nicer to China than we would prefer, but an alliance with them against the rest of the world  --  NOT A CHANCE!
