They are now arguing over the weekend: "http://thescotsman.scotsman.com/index.cfm?id=1058602007" Of course the weekend is a Jewish invention, perfected by Christians by adding Sunday to it.

I love the comment by the Hamas toady that says that "our daily bread is in the hands of Allah" -  or on the dole of the EU governments that cant WAIT to bail Hamas out.

Let them eat the dust of their own creation.

Malthus looks better and better every day. Wonder what happens when the women realize they cant feed their babies and children. Will THEY stop breeding like rabbits, and not have 30 kids per family? Too many bodies in too small a space with too few resources. But ALLAH will provide. And as usual, Israel will be blamed by the world for crisis.

S.White.Bull - What you wrote about Palestinians encouraging the large family culture without taking responsibility applies equally to the Jewish ultra orthodox community. Out of context, it would have been impossible to tell whether you words apply to Jewish or Islamic extremists.
In my book, neither of them are doing us any favours

No disagreement there. However, my reading suggests that this is the norm in Palestinian society, and NOT the norm in Israel overall, just the orthodox commmunity.

Malthus is outdated. see Lotka for a better model of population dynamics.
I'm no mathematician, but surely these equations can be tweaked for x=general pali population instead of x=prey, and y=gunmen population instead of y=predators.
That way you may end up with a stable population within its oscillatory amplitude, or something like that...

Of COURSE Malthus is outdated - BUT HE USED RATS!!!!

Actually, I have a piece of software called Stella 9.0 that models population dynamics with many varying input and output variables. I'm in the process of integrating the output into GIS models. Ive been using it to study the affect of white-tailed deer populations in urban forest preserves, and how,  in the absence of predators, they decimate  local vegetative communities (not the slackers in the area, but flora).

swhitebull -  thanks for the reference, but I'll stick with Malthus - HE USES RATS!!! Bottom line.

Ah what would we do without weekends. That reminds me of an irrelevant Churchhillianism about weekends. Churchill was claiming in the thirties that the Germans conducted major coups on weekends in the hopes that everyone was off guard. He said, "English take their weekends in the country, while Hitler takes his countries in the weekends."

Actually it is said by some that Malthus didn't allow for innovation. Assuming that out of every one hundred thousand people there is one genius, a thousand fairly skilled flunkies to bring his ideas to fruition and ninety-nine thousand more or less willing workers, you can more then pay back the loss caused by excess mouths. Of course that assumes a given culture encourages the characteristics which make for such things. "Excess mouths" in real life are caused by catastrophe. For instance chaos in the hinterland could drive refugees into a city, overloading it's capacity.
