I suppose Israel could use inshore patrol craft to search for gunrunners. I think she already has a boomer.

And your sources are?
Collaborating with the Koreans would make sense. They already have a good rep here for large engineering projects, and their shipbuilding credentials are flawless.
A couple of air defense DDG's also could be all we need for a less vulnerable, nimbler ABM infrastructure along our Mediterranean shore.
I really doubt, however, that the 4-5 G$ needed for such a procurement have been earmarked.

With the Interregnumist heading up a regime that is hostile to Israel, I am engaging in speculation:

The basis is what two dissatisfied nations can bring to each other now that their principle ally has been less than a recent stellar friend?

Israel brings a lot of experience with rockets, radars, and missile guidance systems. RoK has tremendous commercial shipbuilding experience. It also has MONEY.

Israel has the know how and it has a need for an ABM partner who can build an ABM ship in which to install an Israel ABM. I do not see Israel building an Arleigh Burke or even a Sejong the Great. Israel might like one or two as a floating defense platform to cover it from regional IRBM threats.

Tough to do when you don't have a dockyard that can build one.

On the other hand, there is the Hyundai Shipyards and a nation that might want to have its own version of STANDARD SM-3 without going to Washington, hat in hand so to speak. RAYTHEON is very hard to duplicate.

I wonder..........just sheer wild eyed speculation.

Article in a couple of defense journals that Israel is not going with the lockheed LCD's b/c of price tag and now is going to build it 2,500 ton boats with german designs.

My source is right that israel is investing in indigenous naval ship building, the korean qualification begs some more questioning...why would Korean shipbuilding shich he says is still in play...be in play. Does Israel have a plan to build bigger boats then whats been reported thus far....or was it to do with the current tender that germany has now won.

and was that decision wise considering s.korean ship building vs. German ship building???

We do, in fact, need a Navy now. Tamar will not only grant us energy independence for a couple of decades, it will also allow us, and maybe the Euroweenies too, to politely thumb our noses at the Putin klepto-autocracy. Such an asset requires credible protection.
