Subject: If you build it...
battar    9/4/2009 4:12:41 PM
PM Netanyahu seems too be having a row with the US administration about the continuation of building housing in the West Bank. If there is any lesson to be learned from the Gaza strip, it is that what you build today you might have to unbuild tomorrow. At great cost. What think you? to build or not to build? Does Israel go it her own way, or listen to the advice of dear old Uncle Sam, who may be older and wiser?

The land was conquered from the kingdom of Jordan who intitiated the hostilities to begin with, all land settled by Jewish settlers goes through an exhaustive process to mak sure the land is public and not private. Jews should be able to settle and live anywhere they choose no matter the political governance. Demanding Jews build in only certain sectors and zones, sounds like a policy coming out of medieval Europe.

As for Obama putting the screws on netanyahu, and yet handshaking with the world worst dictators....also the fact that Arab intransigence has not melted but only gotten harder since Israel's relegation by US state dept. Obama has made peace (already absurd) even more absurd with a genocidal and radicalized palestinian polity.

The Jewish settlements in Judea and shomron are now over 300,000, the same equation that worked for sinai and gaza simply is unworkable and less you are demanding a mass jewish expulsion of Israel's most patriotic and hardened citizens to give it to people that would surely use the strategic hilltops and water resources to actively instigate hostilities, and once again from a better vantage point.

Morally and practically the idea of a building freeze to jews in the land of their ancestors smacks of bigotry and biased understanding of the history of the Arab-Jewish conflict. Obama wants israel to once again provide massive destabilizing policies on a vulnerable jewish state for the HOPE of, not peace, but mere dialogue....

Israeli's have learned with the failure of oslo and disengagement that hope is not a strategy, but a cover for further erosion of security and legitimacy. Obama's tough love, honesty is nothing short of telling a friend to cut off a leg inorder to appease an implacable foe....there is no duty, honor, justice or wisdom in following such pseudo paternalistic and pie in the sky policy.

There was once a road safety campaign with the slogan "on  the road, don't be right, be smart", in the sense that if you have right of way at an intersection and the other driver shows no sign of stopping, let him go through. I'm not in a position to dispute historical facts. I'm not saying that Obama is the smartest cookie in the kitchen. I am saying that it is within his power to dictate global policy. We might end up outnumbered and overruled, and there is a very real option that surrendering control of the west bank is the best odds we are going to get. 14 million Jews worldwide may well have a historical right to settle in Samaria and Judah, site of the oldest verifiable Israelite settlement. But 1200 million Muslims think otherwise. You do the math.

Principles must be foundation of any pragmatic action....pragmatism by itself will never solve problems only manage them. Posturing and positioning can only take you so far. Not that I think ideologues gone amuck, without a pragmatic bearing do not lose their way either...the point being made is that a soul of a nation, its aspirations, its tradition cannot always be thrown to the wayside, everytime the situation gets hot. the idea that Israel, given its current precarious security situation no less worsened through a traumatic amputation (disengagement) which only engendered further security erosion with the rise of hamastan...at this juncture, considering the radicalized palestinian street and their feckless leadership....the concept of a mass jewish expulsion with or without the historical right, with US or without US support, is simply, to put it mildly.....crazy!
