Just last week I learned (at Sci Fi Weekly) that the Sci-Fi Channel has an Honor Harrington series (or series of miniseries, like they did with "Frank Herbert's Dune") under development. The producer is the same one who did "The Secret Adventures Of Jules Verne" for them a few years back. Word is, the screen treatment of "On Basilisk Station" is already done, and it apparently will be a four-part miniseries, two (aired) hours per part (working out to about five-and-a-half actual hours of movie). If this comes off, >and< they continue with the miniseries formats, this could be the best way to bring Her Ladyship to the screen. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. (And hopefully, this Japanese project won't well and truly sheep-screw the chance of getting Steadholder Harrington's "biography" done right, the way the animated "Lensman" movie fouled up the movie >and< book rights to "Doc" Smith's stories for over a decade!)

if they do as good a job as they did with the dune mini's i will be a happy couch potato. another outfit that would do it well would be the guys who do the hornblowers or sharpe's though sharpe's could do with a budget increase hehe.

Considering that the SFC project is to be done in Canada, I wouldn't bet against their involvement. I agree with you on the Sharpe's budget. (And let's not get into how they dogged it on the latter half of the series......)

If you want to see what she >might< look like, check out the movie "Sky Captain And The World Of Tomorrow". Angelina Jolie's character, Frankie, was (according to the director) based on Dame Honor, right down to her uniform and eyepatch. (Angelina Jolie as Honor? Hm. Would almost have to be a feature film- or would it?) For the SFC version, I'm betting on somebody like one or the other of the two ladies who played "Black Scorpion"- can't think of either one's name at the moment, though. (Brain fart.)

that is exacly who I was thinking of..... even the cover art on the books and game looks similar to her.... fits the unconventional good looking type and she is physically big enough for the roll....

According to the "concept art" short on my DVD of the movie, the concept artist was dubious about Jolie's eyepatch at first, although she was all for it when the director (who was also the writer) suggested it. But when he did the first full-color sketch of her as Frankie (shown on the short), he found that (in his own words) "With the patch essentially 'removing' one eye, you're suddenly reminded how beautiful the remaining one is." (Drat. Now I have to go back and watch "Sky Captain" again. Oh well, there are worse ways to waste a couple of hours- this is one of the fun ways to do it.)

In a couple of places (bar.baen.com and alt.books.david-weber) Jolie as HH is referred to as the thread that will not die. Short version: the author and aj seperately have adopted foreign children. aj waltzed in-country on camera, picked out a kid and waltzed home apparantly w/o any red tape. Didn't work out anywhere near that painlessly for non-celebrity author and remains a bitterly sore subject. aj would be the author's last pick for his character. Also seems like big name celeb$ seem to be thin on the ground for scifi channel mini-series. I think it is better that way - you can focus on the story rather than some mega-star$ performance or lack thereof. And they can spend the bucs on effects, and the big ego doesn't hijack the project to his/her own ends.

I finally remembered her name- she was the first "Black Scorpion" in the Showtime movies that later became the SFC series. She's definitely the type.
