Subject: So, how's it feel to have the shoe on the other foot?
chemist    11/8/2004 3:13:44 AM
I remember reading a few months back that the Francophone posters here thought US fire discipline was bad because Americans had killed some civillians. Called us a bunch of cowboys you did. Well, French troops just waxed a bunch of rioters. So, does French fire discipline suck worse than the Americans, or are the French just learning that chaos sometimes causes mistakes? Shoes on the other foot now mon ami. Careful next time. Laying baseless charges(like disparaging American fire discipline) can sometimes come back to bite you in the arse(like it just did)..

It's not clear that they waxed anyone. The statements of Ivorian officials are totally worthless. From an Ivorian perspective, this has got to be seriously humiliating. What France has done is like slapping down a child and taking his toy away.

As far as I can se France is handling the situation extremely well; who do you really think caused the casualties? Professional French soldiers or the rioters with machettes? I also somewhat doubt the French have introduced a ROE saying anybody wearing black is to be shot as an enemy! Unlike some...

French troops fire discipline is very good unless americans. However it doesn't prevent us to fire few 20 mm rounds from gunship in a well identified mob with machettes. The difference is that we identify our ennemy before firing. And really do you think that French are shocked by few casualties and behaviors of those mob. By the way since its creation in 1915, the first RICM regiment had 19000 men KIA.Sad to add 8 more but its life!

RICM is the regiment of the French army with the more awards. In fact 5 of the men killed were from the RICM. 3 others from the 2ème RIMa and 1 was from a transportation régiment (Régiment du Train, 515éme?)

This is hillarious. "Oh, we're good. We don't kill civillians by accident." What BS. It's what happens in urban battles you jokers. Right the French are perfect. Yeah, uh huh. You want to buy a bridge? Be careful with your insults, particularly when they aren't warrented and are just nation bashing. This kind of stuff comes round(hell even the Beeb just called the Ivory Coast a quagmire!). YOu waxed some civillians. Terrible accidents all. But a true measure of French martiality? No. So why do the same to the Americans? Well, I guess it's okay for the successors to de Gaul to be stuffed shirts and denigrate others after all..

We need to liberate the Ivory Coast from the French occupation. God help the French if I'm elected President in 2008.

Again, except for the statements of IC government officials, I've read nothing about French troops shooting people.

The UN for legal way, the French for real way! Interesting, the French general which commands is the former commander of special forces. Good hunting ground for our special forces.
