I'm sure Bush and Cheney must be concerned about protecting the House of Saud from being brought down by our war in Iraq at this point - especially since the Saudi's threatened to go into Iraq to protect their Sunni brothers if we leave. Just speculation, but what if our troops do leave in the short-term (18 months?)? Wouldn't that then put the House of Saud sorta on the spot? Because either the Saudi military would then be put to a test they can't pass (against Iran), or they will be made out to be liars for not protecting the Iraqi Sunnis as promised (playing right into the hands of Al Queda whose ultimate goal is bringing down the corrupt House of Saud).
Not to be too cynical, but what if this speculation is true - and our soldiers are being killed by Sunni insurgents, who are actually being saved by our troops holding the Shiites militia back?
Any connection to this line of speculation to increased Naval presence in the Gulf Region? |
