Subject: Political swing in Scandinavia
Thomas3    3/6/2006 8:07:06 PM
The cartoon affair seems to have been instrumental in moving votes from the left-center and and socialdemocrats to the liberal/conservative wing. This applies not only in Denmark and NOrway; but even in Sweden, where the conservative (Moderaterne) are in a position to head a liberal/conservative government after the election this autoum! (53% of the votes according to the latest polls) The nepotism of the ruling swedish Socialdemocrats are resurfacing againg in the press. We on our side of the sound have known for long that Hell is mainly populated by Swedes that have tried to bribe St. Peter into overlooking their pilfering from the Pearly Gate.

Re Sweden I would also think there is some reaction to the suppression of the immigration debate, which is sorely supressed by the political/intellectual elite. A recent example is the SÄPO (internal intelligence) shutdown of websites in Sweden showing the JP cartoons. The politics doesn't reflect the electorate and it is this shift that has been precipitated by the cartoon affair. Somewhat similar to the last change of govt in Denmark. If you go in denial of issues that matter to the electorate, you will in the end marginalise yourself as a party... Thinking Danish Social Democrats.

TAC: In any movement there are plutocratic tendencies, and the social democrats have imagined they own power. The problem is not so much parliament and government, as they can be changed; but the corps of civil servants. There are still pockets of communist in the civil service.

I agree with you that the debate has other and deeper roots than the odd insulted muslim. The establishment is not worried about the muslims, but of what will be said about their transgressions. The Social Democrats have indeed not been successfull trying to combine the womans lib and the I-don't-care-who-runs-the-country-As-long-as-she-has-great-... segment: I mean with a major nosejob like Helles!!! The sharp eye of the elector can spot a fake. Alas poor Helle: It seems like You will have to redo the nosejob after the election.

Let's just hope that a change of government in Sweden is the beginning to making a Sweden a place just as tight on immigration/islam issues as Denmark...

Yes let's hope we get Swedes out of Denmark; but again there are some refugees that must fear for their lives if they return to Sweden: Sweden has a distincly higher crime rate for serious crimes than Denmark. Don't offend your rapist: Wear clean knickers.
