Subject: Chechnya status......
CJB    9/18/2002 2:52:00 PM
Based on reports I have seen on the internet it seems that the Chechan rebels are on their last legs? What is the true status of this conflict right now? Outside of the Paksini Gorge, which Im familiar with, what else is going on? Also the info coming out of Chechnya since the start of the second war has been sparse! Anyone know of any reliable sites where I can get some info on specific engagements? Also their are some very good leasons to be learned from both Chechan conflicts on how to conduct gurilla warfare.

Checnya still has much support for its militia. Russia could not afford another war with Checnya nor could Checnya with Russia. Most of Grozni and other Chechen cities are in ruins and Russia gets daily bombings. The conflict is still there only more stable.

With the recent assassination of Chechen President Akhmad Kadyrov, Chechnya is now facing a leadership problem as the Kremlin is unable to find a replacement. The recent upsurges of violence in Chechnya and surrounding regions indicate the Chechen rebels are still very active.
