I don't hate turkey. I do think Turks need to make up their minds about what part of the world they want to associate(?)(not sure of the right word here) with.

Don't play that line with me! The turkish could learn a good deal from the Germans about coping with the past: There is a reason why the neighbours of Turkey are sceptic. The turks I personally know in Turkey quite realise that Turkey through history has made its own going tougher, but they don't whine: They realise they will not get accepted by the EU or anybody else just for being nice people! The EU must have benefits outweighing the obligations. The Turks I know, know there is no such thing as a free lunch - and they are prepared to make the effort. I firmly believe Turkey will be a valuable addition to the EU and is of NATO, but not the turkish cry-babies. Don't whimper, buckle up and get cracking! Reasons for hatred of Turkey aere abundant: The genocide of the armenians. The Slaughter on the Greeks on the Turkish mainland. The heavyhanded policies agains the kurds - not that it justified the terrorism in Diyarbakir and suburbs. The investigation methods of the police. Don't spoil it: Things are improving, but they take time - and the wounds from a civil war and massaker takes a very long time to heal - about 100 years.
