WASHINGTON - The air wing commander at Elmendorf US Air Force Base in Alaska and who was an exchange officer and instructor with the Royal Australian Air Force has been found dead at his home.
Brigadier General Thomas L Tinsley, commander of the 3rd Wing, died of a gunshot wound last night, the air force said.
Lieutenant-Colonel Michael Paoli, an air force spokesman, said the death is under investigation, and there does not appear to be any indication of foul play at this time.
Tinsley was an F-15 instructor pilot and test pilot and commanded the 12th Fighter Squadron at Elmendorf. He had been the wing commander since last year.
