Interesting stats, if the Collins Class fleet had the same availability levels of any submaine fleet (other than the RN Vanagard class SSBNs) the RAN would have no submarines at sea most of the time and only one submarine available some of the time!!!!
Had the Collins Class program progressed with the same delay and cost issues experienced by every other new submarine program (with the possible exception of the USN Virginia class) it would have cost substantially more, would have been delivered significantly later and would be delivering less capability than they currently do.
Where does this info come from ... the US and UK professionals employed to fix the issues with the Collins class..... |
