same reply to another of your mates.  Set aside your national pride, and be objectifor

for someone wishing for a little objectivity on this board, you have a strange draw towards the froggies in your comments. from america perhaps?

Navy seals are always training.  3 three month of phyisical training in IL. Then 6 months of basic underwater demolitions school or BUDS in san diego, CA (this is were 80 percent of candidates are weeded out). Next is 6 months of SEAL Qalification Training. Only after a year and three months they can call themselves SEALs.   A year and ahalf of training follows all of this in personal skill along with platoon level training.  then they are allowed to deploy.  this is a little longer then three months.  check your facts

I think it is funny how non operators debate the capability level of military units.  Peoples opinion always comes down to there nationalist pride or service branch.  First off the SBS is the equivalent of the SEALS.  SAS would be the equivalent of the Army Rangers or Marine Force Recon.  Second all five of these units are extremely well trained and I would gladly work with all five and not have to worry about watching my back.

SAS would be the equivalent of the Army Rangers.

SAS is closer to Delta than Rangers.  Commandos are a closer "fit" to Rangers - even that .is skating close to the "definition wind"

In the scheme of things, it's all a bit silly trying to identify capabilities by similarity of mission set anyway. There are too many other variables. involved.

I wish this damn thread would die a natural death, it is becoming tedious.  esp on school holidays.

You know you love this thread ;) Its fun to see what nonsence the kiddies have dreamt up on the playground.

Regarding US Army Ranger = Brit SAS.  Well my word, that really is an impressively ignorant understandign of these units and what they do..........oh but wait.....they both wear a "Sand" colored Beret so clearly there are indeed the same ;)

Understood, they don't exactly advertise it ;)
Some idea of the training cycle:
1. Navy bootcamp in a special SEAL candidate unit (brutal) about 12 weeks.
2. 'A' school for a tech skill like gunners mate, but with a SEAL twist. (6mo)
3. Six months of BUD/S link
After that they are assigned to a team. Where they recieve 6-12 months more of on the job training with the team. They aren't really considered "operators" till this is over.

Its not a requirement! Since "SO", is an Rate now!
