As others have mentioned... anyway, I am pretty curious as to the direct American anologue to SAS - who would fit besT?

Hmmm. Ghurkas.... Green Berets...

nah... it's SBS and Delta

SEALS > SBS
SAS = Delta

Seals have more experience.
I never even hear what Delta or SAS is up too (not too sure if the SAS is really busy though), which I suppose means either is really good. Anyway, I'm certain some news can be obtained if you're in the know.

i'd throw out the argument that SEALs are more experienced than shaky boats. experience gained can't be measured. they're equally capable at what they specialize in.

Ok, let's break it down.
US. Navy SEALs vs. British SAS.

Let's start with the SEALs.
The SEALs have been around since the days of WWII, back then they were known as UDT's (Underwater Demolotion Teams.)
The UDTs operated in the Pacific Theater of war, and were highly successful.
These guys would pretty much throw on a pair of swimming shorts, a pair of goggles, grab some C4, Det wire, and a pocket-knife and go an blow up coral reefs, obstacles on the shoreline, large obstructions, etc.
They also scouted out enemy artillery positions, troop strength, morale, and all the facts neccessary to wage an attritional battle.
Their job was critical to the success of the US Navy.
WIthout these frogmen US Marine Amphibous landings would have been next to impossible, the US learned the hard way, (Tarawa Atoll) why it's important to have a unit that are capable of doing these operations.
After WWII the UDTs evolved into the Navy SEALs as we know them today during the Vietnam war, where they produced
their outstanding reputation and struck fear into the Vietcong, who would call the Navy SEALs "The men with green faces."
In Vietnam the Navy SEALs practiced and executed UW and FID.
The Vietnam war was the big break the SEALs had deserved all along.
After the Vietnam war came the Persian Gulf war.
During "Operation  Desert Storm" the SEALs proved yet again how effective they are.
They played a vital role at the begginning of the war.
The SEALs were to cause a distraction on the coastline, making it seem like the main US offensive was coming from the Gulf.
The US however, launched it's offensive from the Kuwaiti/Iraqi border.
The Iraqi's however had fallen prey to the US's deception and committed more troops to the coast.
This made it so that the US Army had much less resistance moving towards the center of Iraq, thus ablle to achieve it's operational goals easier.
The SEALs had now moved on to bigger things, instead of only doing small support functions they were now performing operations that were vital to the success of the US as a whole!
On top of that they still had to assume all of their other responsiblities and to show the world that they were still the best.
In the gulf SEALs performed CSAR, DA on oil rigs, and helped control piracy and maritime terrorism on top of their abilities as an effective FID and UW unit.
The SEALs have known nothing but success, and have earned nothing but it.
In the present day they are helping to win the war on terror by finding the enemy, watching the enemy, and taking out the enemy.
The SEALs are getting better and better at their job by the day.
they are constantly training and have all gone through the 2 years of very rigorous training to be considered operational SEALs.
The SEALs have left a legacy that leaves Americans proud, and enemies afraid.
The US can rest easy knowing that there are 2500 SEALs ready to take on anything, anytime.
Cause' that's just what SEALs love most, and they are used to having the odds against him.
In the current war on terrorism 18 Navy SEALs have died, 16 in Afghanistan during, "Operation Red Wing" and 2 in Iraq, both of them during operations in an enemy occupied/fortified region.
The SEALs have distinguished themselves through the bravery and sacrifice they give to the world everyday. We should all give them our respect and acknowledge the comittment they show to not their country, but to the world.
In the past 6 years, since the war started 6 American servicemen have distinguished themselves by the Honor and Valor that the US Navy SEALs prize so highly.
Among these are Michael Monsoor, and Lt. P. Murphy.
Michael Monsoor earned the MOH by saving his fellow squad members by jumping on top of a grenade to shield them from the blast. Lt. P. Murphy led a 4 man Reconnnaissance operation,(Operation Red Wing) in the heart of the Hindu Kush region.
During the operation him and his squad members were compromised, and in the firefight that ensued he proved courageous and loyal to his brothers in arms.
The odds were stacked against him and his men, the odds were 25:1 at the least.
In order to be able to call for help one of them would have to climb out of the ravine they were pushed into by enemy fire to be able to get a signal and get in contact with base.
Disregarding all personal safety and jeopardizing his life in the process, Lt. P. Murphy climbed out of the ravine, exposed himself to enemy gun-fire, and made the call.
Lt. P. Murphy died as a result.
Marcus Lutrell survived because of it.
These are the values the SEALs vaue most.
The human spirit can endure much, the SEALs have proved it time and time again.

"Ok, let's break it down.
US. Navy SEALs vs. British SAS.

Let's start with the SEALs."

You also finished with the SEALs and didn't meantion the SAS at all. Don't bother writing anything if you are going to be disgustingly biased and make your nationality blatently obvious.

"On top of that they still had to assume all of their other responsiblities and to show the world that they were still the best."
"The SEALs have known nothing but success, and have earned nothing but it."
"They fight to the death, they never surrender. They are uncomparable to anything the world has seen before it."

Try again.

Try again?

Dude, you haven't even started.
Compose a valid argument, then come present it to us, instead of saying things like "You're disgustingly bias." and "Try again." which proves nothing.

Like I said, you havn't even started bud.......

The SEALs are the best modern day SOF in the thw world.
They have proved it.
Now, the SAS may have been the best 50 years ago, but they are not the best today.

ST_6    U.S. Navy SEAL's - Elite   9/27/2009 3:48:47 PM

Naval Special warfare, elite teams of SEAL's are America's most dedicated warriors to our Country! Commandos like Navy SEAL's really put themselves in harms way to protect this Country, unlike Marine Force Recon, Army Special Ops/Rangers and USAF! I have lots of respect and same respect for SAS, SBS and others like their breed! This is my Intoduction to Strategy Page and this subject of SEAL's against S.A.S! I'm new to this site, hope ya'll like the intro!
