Subject: Do we need more?
USMC_ZIGGY    12/19/2006 4:06:08 PM
In 1969 there was 425,000 troops in vietnam in 2006 there was 125,000 troops in iraq. In 1974 2,000,000 VC were dead and 58,000 soldiers. In 2006 700,000 Iraqis were killed, and 2,900 soldiers. The us in order to maintain superpower status that it has can not lose in such a uncivilized country. In order to achieve that we need to either demolish that country. Or activate 95% of trops and go through and destroy all targets.

Any numbers of VC killed false. Our forces called any civilian casualty VC to conceal the scope of the collateral damage during that war. Unfortunately had the side effect of implying that there was an effective insurgency going on. The increased involvement of NVA regualar troops in the late 60s was motivated by the collapse of the VC insurgency. The Tet Offensive brought the remaining VC into the open and finished the insurgency off, in addition to critically straining the NVA. Unfortunately our news media convinced our leaders that the Tet was a disaster for us rather than for N. Vietnam.

We have to be careful when calling one country or another "uncivilized". That's a matter of perspective after all. From our current enemies' perspective, the Americans are the barbarians. At least that's what they are told from birth.

It's easy to say "lets smash them out of exsistance", but that would only make things worse for us and it would certainly curse our good name, as Americans, around the world. Much like what is happening now with the current Germans. They don't want to hear about the holocaust anymore.
