This reminds me why I hate the extreme leftists so much According to a faction in the Labor party Christmas should be downgraded and become more sober as to not offend the Muslims. Now when I think about, I don't remember the majority of Muslims having a problem with Christmas. Nor do I recall any violent Islamist demonstrations against the celebration of Christmas. Come to think of it from my own experience up until now Christmas was/is a non-issue for Muslims. Cartoons riots I remember, riots against Christmas not. What I do remember though it the constant whining of leftists about Christmas having become too Capitalistic for the last decades. What I do remember is calls from leftists to make Christmas more sober. What I do remember is leftists trying to abolish Christmas even before Islamic terrorism became the main issue. What pisses me off is that some fool *1) thinks he can use a serious problem like Islamic terrorism as a vehicle to further his own pet causes and expect to get away with this. Consider the effects of what they have done: - They've created anger against Muslims over an issue that didn't originate from the Muslim community. It isn't their fault. - They've created a new "issue" for the fundamentalists to bother us with. Helping the fundamentalists with new ideas so to speak. - They've created an image of weakness that invites fundamentalist violence. Who the hell do these guys think they are, trying to sneak something like that past me! And expect me to fall for it! The distatefull developement is that all kinds of fools *1) now will use "Muslim sensitivities" for all kinds of unrelated pet projects that they would not be able to justify otherwise. The fact that this worsens the problems doesn't interest them a bit. I can see the avalance of crap coming now: "We need to stop driving suv's, because it offends the Muslims", "We need to stop wearing expensive American designer jeans, because it offends the Muslims", "We need to stop eating luxury foods, because it offends the Muslims", etc, etc. Even though it's a bit early I wish everyone a merry Christmas, with epic capitalistic banquets overflowing with the finest wines and huge amounts of presents of the latest luxuries, excep those bastards from labor. For them I wish that they will be in hell to be satan's Bi%$H who will "use" them as he sees fit the entire duration of the holiday season. And once he is done for Arafat who is surely with him now to repeat the same. Damn politicians we should neuter them all. *1) I apologize for the fools, the insane, the mentally unstable for comparing them to such &^&*%%

That Muslims might be offended by Christmas is an utter fabrication by the left and demonstrates the left's lack of understanding of Islam.

What they fail to realise (or refuse to acknowledge) is that while Muslims don't believe Christ to be the Son of God they nevertheless recognise him as a prophet and revere him as such. Hence, Christmas has meaning to Muslims.

I live and work in a country (Jordan) where the population is over 90% Muslim. My first Christmas here (last year) was a public holiday for everyone. I received many more text messages and telephone calls wishing me a merry Christmas from Muslims than I did from Christians. Some of our Muslim friends even joined us for a drink on that day.

This is just another tactic by the left to attack Christianity and the values of Western society.

Cheers.

The Labour party has about as much in common with the ?extreme left? as the Chinese communist party has with Marxism, absolutely nothing save for a fetish with colour red.

They?ve got plenty of pseudo conservative/liberals obsessed with political correctness, but there isn?t a single social democrat and there certainly isn?t any socialist MP?s in there party. Hell the lib dems are more left wing than labour nowadays. Come to think of it there are only 2 well known parties in Britain that are substantially more right wing than Labour, ones UKIP and the other is the fascist BNP. Tony Benn must cry himself to sleep at nights.

To comment on the original point: Last time I checked Britain, despite its past, wasn?t a Christian nation. It?s got more agnostics/atheists than all the other faiths combined. Just look at Scotland?s it?s got the lowest church turn out in the world. I have nothing to comment on the Muslim references, I?m against any religious national holiday for any faith, period.

Sure I ?celebrate? Christmas but like a great many Britain?s, I?m a complete hypocrite, I couldn?t care less about the Christian imagery or the message. Lets not kid ourselves into thinking that it?s exclusively a Christian or for that matter even religious holiday I know Sikhs who stick a Christmas tree in there front window and my Jewish ex-girlfriend used to which initially I thought was odd but then realised it was no odder than what I had been doing for so many years.  I?m sure the event means different things to different people, for me it?s some time to spend with my family. The irony is of course that it?s actually the staunch Christians campaigning hardest to bring back the worship of Jesus as the focal point of Christmas instead of paying homage to the church of the market with Santa as its prophet. The old Christian message of spending a moment to think of those less fortunate than yourself sits uneasily with the latest incarnation
