Subject: British Officers to lead the Rebels
JTR~~    4/19/2011 6:09:47 PM
News reports today have reported that British officers will be flown into Benghazi in order to break the stalemate and help organise the rebels in their fight. However the articles have not mentioned as to what their role will really be. Most consensuses agrees that it will be an advisory capacity, however it seems to me that such a role would be effective tactical and strategic leadership. Will this effectively be a Libyan Rebel army action led by British officers? How far does "advisory" extend? Your thoughts Regards JTR~~

technically "advisory" means that they can do everything except become a willful combatant.  ie don't go out and actively (ie use weapons) engage in combat roles

they can defend themselves, but not take up arms in an offensive manner.

its one of those grey areas

So effectively, they could lead the entire campaign, all but turning it into a British run show (just without the troops on the ground) in the name of the Libyan rebels, so long as they do not participate in any actual combat?
a grey area indeed.

"technically" yes

another reality is the numbers of russians and chinese who were "advisers" on the grounjd in Korea and Vietnam - afew ended up getting shot at on active combat missions

Rumors from conspiracy theorist circle say that imminent direct NATO invasion will happen in July.

Just take a giant chunk of salt with it.

It will be too hot in July. However, Afrika Korps started First Battle of El Alamin in July of 1942.
