Subject: MRCA India: Contract to be reviewed for irregularities...

The Typhoon consortium seems to have a puncher's chance of being able to resubmit an offer - Tejas shows us anything is possible.. R

If you happen to be familiar with legislative processes, you will know that governments routinely vet and look into queries submitted to them and provide formal replies in parliament. That is a matter of due process and is hardly suggestive of malpractise.

The  folks who seem to think that the Typhoon has a chance seem to be clueless on how things work in Indian defense procurement. How come no major political party or media organisation has reported on this-are they all corrupt or is it that they know that there's little to go by here?

No allegations, when it comes to defence matters in India, are dismissed or ignored. There were earlier reports of members of the downselect committee objecting to the "process" of chosing the L1 but it turned out their "objections" were merely foot notes /remarks and the decision was reached by consensus. Typhoon doesn't stand a chance now, unless something major pops up.

The expected duration of the inquiry is 2 months, that is hardly to be dismissed as a footnote.

The L1 definitions (goalposts) were moved on several occasions, through-life costings were estimated and adjusted accordingly, what are the chances that procedural errors will have occurred?

You seem to miss the point that even minor procedural errors or oversights will have implications, if the data itself is found to be at fault then in certain cases L1 can even be disqualified.

This inquiry was inevitable, I stated the the Typhoon consortium has a "puncher's chance" if you don't understand what that means I'll explain; it means it "can get lucky" and originates from the fact that even an outmatched boxer will from time to time land a lucky blow on his opponent and win by KO. Exactly the case with GE and the Tejas engine debacle.

According to the majority of sources, the Rafale is cheaper (which is why it will likely remain L1), with state involvement from France the next inevitable hurdle will be an EU lawsuit on competition grounds.

And here is the response of the Defence Minister initiating the "inquiry" (common parlance for, "shut up we heard what you said and we have nothing to hide")
