So far I'm aware of Canadian BV-206s(armored articulated snowcat type vehicle), Canadian Coyote(surveillance version of LAVIII with same turret as LAV-25 plus boom mounted sensors), German Wiesal airmobile weapons carrier(20mm and Tow versions), the BV's and Wiesals have been moved around by U.S helo.

nato forces are in need of armored vehicles that can provide fire support, and protect troops inside. south africa makes a vehicle called the "rhino", good support for troops inside. 26 member nations and this is wat they come up with? there are countries that must help. armor and fire support from the armor is a good feeling for a dismounted infantryman. the germans have to deploy more than 3,000 troops. and that attack chopper will get shot up pretty good in those mountains. GERMANY needs to do more. they have one of the best militaries in the world, and they have a newer attack chopper built in conjunction with spain. its no good if ya dont use it. NATO countries need to help more, logistics, air transport, and TROOPS! even the french have troops there, it would be nice if they deployed a regiment of legionnaires--a crack paratroop unit. don't laugh, they are very good. there must be a wat to deploy a light tank, in the west of afgghan. there are plains too. and to take and hold that city you will need tanks. i wish i was in charge of planning this, its so obvious.....

There are reports thatthe Canadians are deploying 20 Leopard 1's to A'stan.

This is attracting a lot of interest in Canada, as there are rumours that the Stryker type armoured car that they were going to buy has been cancelled, and will be replaced by a new MBT.

Yes on the Leo 1's.  However, these have had updated fire control and other systems put into them, so they are not the same weapons systems as originally purchased.  Anyway you cut it, their armour protection and firepower are heads and shoulders better than that on our LAVIII and appropriately so considering the different missions of these vehicles.

In fact our Leopards were upgraded in Y2000, Canada purchased 123 surplus Leopard 1A5 turrets from Germany, thereby creating a Leopard "C2". Additionally, approx. 6 of the units have the MEXAS armour suite, and these will most likely be deployed.

In all we're looking at about a dozen MBT's being moved in to Afghanistan.

Here is a URL with one of Canada's Leopard tanks on the move in Afghanistan.  It is fielded by members of the Lord Strathcona Horse (Royal Canadians).

I saw the Canadian Leos, along with some of their LAVs in Kandahar on a recent trip.  We were told by the Dutch that their PbH 2000s were here as well.  The Germans have large numbers of Fuchs 6-wheeled armored transporters, and even a few 8 wheeled Luchs.  The Italians and French have a variety of light, 4-6 wheeled armored cars.  There are also some M113s and YMS-765s.

The Afghan forces use BRDMs, BMPs, T-62s and M113s.  They only have one mech battalion and one tank battalion, plus some recon companies.
