Subject: China Asks For Military Assistance From US for Olympics (including GEAR)
Softwar    3/21/2008 8:55:43 AM
http://www.washingtontimes.com/article/20080321/NATION04/585320158 The Chinese military crackdown in Tibet is raising questions about whether the Bush administration should go ahead with assistance to China's military for security measures at the Olympic Games this summer, defense officials said yesterday. China has asked for advice and security equipment, some of which involves U.S. military gear, for the games and the request has set off an internal debate. Pro-China officials favor providing the help and some military gear, arguing that President Bush will attend the opening ceremony in August and thus boosting Olympic security would benefit the United States. Other officials opposed to the support say the U.S. military, in particular, should not help and is restricted by Congress from supporting foreign police activities because of past concerns over U.S. backing for Latin American security services that had links to death squads. "The suppression of the monks supports blocking the Chinese request," said one official. Some administration officials have sought to deflect criticism of the Chinese military, claiming the troops and armored cars used against unarmed protesters in Tibet are from the People's Armed Police (PAP), the Soviet-style internal security forces, and not the People's Liberation Army, as the military is called. However, officials said there are signs the Chinese military is involved in backing the security force, and that both armed forces are under the control of the Central Military Commission, headed by Chinese President Hu Jintao.

I can't even believe there is a serious discussion about this.

Where are you Bush supporters?  Come and show yourselves!

This should not even be on the table and is an incredibly rediculous notion.  Should security services cooperate?  Sure, no problem that is expected and any competent detail will cooperate and liase with local enforcement/protection at least on a BASIC level.  Should we help train/equip them?  NO.  There should be no discussion.

Tell them that they can only hire Blackwater USA. The equipment comes with Blackwater, and leaves with Blackwater.

All of blackwater would be no match for the PLA on Chinese soil.  I can bet that some gear would simply be taken.

I think Leonides said it best when it comes to CCP,PLA,or Persian Immortals:

"Give them nothing, but take from them everything!"

Now just look what 300 can do when motivated.

And we should not wait to fight in the shade, because soon their arrows may block out the sun,or give us all a bad sunburn!.

Tsk, tsk, ttony.
The Spartans never had to face machine guns, airpower, artillery, tanks, and a few million of the red (or is that commie pink?) chinese horde armed with assault rifles.

Good luck with that.

...still, a Blackwater-esque, covert 'til-the-last-man-standing strike squad could wreak a helluva lot of havoc.
But we're talking about protecting civilians, not aggravating the situation.

Cryin' shame the chinese feel so insecure in providing adequate security to the Olympics events, and in their own capital city, even.

Aren't china's FBI- and CIA-equivalents' abilities up to snuff,
not enough that they can't catch would-be terrorists, thugs and thieves, potential assassins, and whatever other protestors from entering their country, or even crawling out of china's own rotten woodwork?

I myself can't wait to see the first videos come August of chinese police, even military units, beating down some innocent visiting foreigners, only to have china's official press response be something of the sort that said victims were dangerous criminals, backing up their beatdown by who knows how many trumped up charges.

...and I'm also wondering just how many foreign athletes come down with mysterious illnesses just hours prior to their scheduled events.

If Bush can't prevent State Department and CIA officials from selectively leaking information slanted against him, what makes you think he can prevent these people from surreptitiously handing over weaponry to the Chinese? Federal bureaucracies are a law unto themselves. Is Bush soft on China? When you consider he offered the biggest arms package ever to Taiwan and started building up Guam in preparation for Chinese trouble-making, I'd have to say that he's about as pro-active as any president in the near future will be. Especially if either Democrat takes office in January.

Oh really? Well those Persians used all the above, well least for their day.

And those 300 Spartans, in the early 1950's, already made their stand after being ambushed from the goat path, and still got a draw!. Now look at what we have today because Truman would not eat some Big Mac instead.

And i can make this claim because the lawfirm of Marx and Mao has made damn sure all the US enemies will have a Nuke or AK instead!

And btw, what makes you think if CCP attacked the USA while we had a nuke, and they did not, they won't be doing it again real soon? Afterall, even the USSR was not that MAD!.
