Subject: Minuteman parts sent to Taiwan by error
YelliChink    3/25/2008 4:39:50 PM
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/03/26/world/asia/25cnd-military.html?hp Missile Parts Sent to Taiwan in Error By THOM SHANKER Published: March 26, 2008 WASHINGTON ¡X Instead of sending helicopter batteries, the United States shipped four electrical fuses for Minuteman nuclear missile warheads to Taiwan, a mistake that was discovered only last week ¡X a year and a half after the erroneous shipment, Pentagon officials disclosed on Tuesday. ........ The nose cone fuses are just under two feet long, and authorities in Taiwan have assured the Pentagon that the canisters have remained unopened and in storage the entire time Taiwan had them, officials said. Even so, part of the investigation will include intelligence and technical analysis to determine whether the fuses were examined or otherwise tampered with. Officials said the error came to light last week when Taiwanese officials alerted the United States. ====================================================================== So, can we give you back the useless fuzes and have the helicopter batteries please?

Why not ship the batteries along with the other parts necessary to complete the MM package?

This reminds me of the problem we once faced when an accountant in the Army Department asked for a listing of parts sorted by part number. We found the U bolt for a Army truck muffler was listed right next to the nuclear warhead for the Pershing missile - a difference of one character on the order form.

This kinda reminds me of CCP saying Taiwan did not have those missles, and then they rolled out on the runway.

And didn't GW already say that if CCP attacked Taiwan targetting the Three Gourges Dam would be an option Taiwan could use?

And actually, if Taiwan had a few for real, what would CCP do? I guess they will let Beijing and half China get drowned or irradiated over Taiwan? Well i hope CCP does not plan on ruling from Beijing or Taipei for another 500 years!.

Now why should the USA risk an all out war with CCP, when a few well placed missles in Taiwan can do the job instead? The MX would do nicely.

And since CCP has already stolen alot of our nuke tech, why not give Taiwan some as well,or we could do as Clinton did with CCP, and sell Taiwan the hardware or software instead!.

And do any of you really think that Taiwan will ever accept CCP or PLA on their island? Well i dont think so, and i would rather use MAD, then send my son to die for either cause!.

And if CCP is really that MAD? Well then we are all probably dead already anyway!

North Korea 'test-fires missiles'
http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/44520000/gif/_44520510_nskorea_sea_mar08.gif" alt="map" border="0" height="152" hspace="0" vspace="0" width="203">
North Korea has test-fired short-range missiles off its western coast, the South Korean government has confirmed.

The tests came as Pyongyang warned that US demands over its nuclear programme could further delay its disabling of nuclear facilities as agreed last year.

A South Korean presidential spokesman said the missile tests seemed to be part of "ordinary military training".

North Korea's actions come a day after it expelled South Korean managers from a joint industrial park on the border.

The expulsions are being seen as a diplomatic protest against the Seoul government which has said it would link progress at the park with progress on the North's denuclearisation effort, says the BBC's Kevin Kim in the South Korean capital.

The conservative government of newly-elected President Lee Myung-bak has made it clear that further economic co-operation with Pyongyang will only be possible if North Korea fully disables its nuclear facilities.

US nuclear suspicions

A government official told South Korea's Yonhap news agency that North Korea launched several missiles at 1030 local time (0130 GMT).

The official said that the missiles were fired into the Yellow Sea.

In response, South Korean presidential spokesman Cheong Wa Dae told Yonhap that "the government regards North Korea's missile firing as merely a part of its ordinary military training".

Analysts say such launches are often timed to make a political point.

Meanwhile, a North Korean foreign ministry spokesman warned the US not to pursue its suspicions that Pyongyang has hidden some of its nuclear programme.

Under a landmark disarmament-for-aid deal reached last year, North Korea has taken steps to shut down its main atomic facility at Yongbyon.

But the US wants North Korea to fully declare its nuclear weapons stockpile and answer US suspicions of nuclear proliferation and possession of a secret uranium enrichment programme.

North Korea 'test-fires missiles'

So your point here is that there is a link between Beijing's proliferation of nuclear weapons and long range ballistic missiles to North Korea and the accidental shipment of a non-nuclear component to Taiwan that for all practical purposes is 30 year old technology available off the shelf.

Hmmm....  So if there is such a link then where is the U.S. counterpart of Dr. Khan, selling nuclear weapons designs to anyone with a checkbook?  Of course, Dr. Khan's work, the PLA blue-print design of a nuclear warhead, was handed over to us by Libya complete with the Chinese instruction manual for construction.  He did not get that for free from Beijing with a coloring book for the 2008 Olympic disaster games.

If you play with fire - expect to get burned.  If you proliferate nuclear weapons to Pakistan, and North Korea - expect India, Taiwan, South Korea and Japan to respond in kind.  Hope you enjoy looking at a variety of weapons pointed at you from all directions.

The recent DPRK missile exercise shot missiles into Yellow Sea, which is actually closer to PRC than ROK and Japan.

Hey funny you bring that up, because after sitting stuck at the Walt Whitman Bridge in Phila, thanks to a real moron holding a woman and kids, i had time to fill up a couple bottles from the river for them.

I hope CCP enjoys them as much as i did getting them!
