F of intent.

For it to do us any good, it would have to not have been defunded during the Clinton years, it would have to be prototyped for test now as a megawatt class weapon, and it would have to shoot straight UP.

As a program exercise, if the engineers at Raytheon and Boeing can scale up an order of magnitude in time to field deploy a  working weapon (by 2015), we could still solve a lot of sins.

With the current crop of 'heroes' in the DoN and in the industry, though, don't waste time hoping for a miracle.

Harold I have a few questions:

1. Do we build a ship class around the FEL, or fit current designs with it?
2. Wont this thing require nuclear power?
3. Aren't ballistic missiles hardened against heat effects (Re-entry), and resistant to lasers?
4. and finally wont this thing be effected by fog, clouds, sea spray, ect?
