Jane's Defence Weekly has an article outlining the problems the Canadian Air Force is facing due to a lack of aircraft, including the lack of the more recent or soon to be purchased aircraft. In part it reads:
As for the four C-17 strategic airlifters, 16 CH-47 Chinook helicopters and 17 tactical transports that the air command is buying, "there is a serious recognition that the numbers of aircraft that we are procuring are all at the bottom end", said Lieutenant-General Steve Lucas, Chief of the Air Staff. "We have not included attrition aircraft in any of these purchases, so, if we do suffer losses, then we will examine the means of replacing the capability."
