Just found this on Youtube. You guys are making quite a name for yourselves over there. All Canadians should be extremely proud of the job your guys are doing.

the canadian army has started a campaign to get the news out so you can probably look forward to seeing more reports on what's going on.
on an entirely unrelated front i've a couple questions you might be able to help me with. i play a game called eve online and in it one of the weapons you can mount on your battle ship are 1400 mm arty. would you care to hazard a guess at the weight of such a system as well as a single round of ammo for it? extrapolation from existing arty gets generates quite huge numbers and having some confirmation from a guy in the field would be nice before i throw myself back into the fray.

Couple of questions so I can attempt apply some real world physics/engineering to this. (That means no inertial dampers or such). This I assume is an anti ship weapon. Is it turret mounted or hull mounted? If turret mounted are there multiple tubes per turret? Engagement range? Is the ammo some explosive type or is it just basic slugs ie a Kinetic energy weapon?
Initial thoughts are that to hurl a projectile that big at a speed usefull for space combat at the ranges probable for space warefare is going to take a stupendously large and heavy set up if todays technology is simply scaled up to achieve!!!!

yep antiship weapon and it's turret mounted as it has a tracking speed of a few hundredths of a radian per second. single barrel. engagement ranges out to 200 km or so with a pretty high shell speed because damage is applied instantly the gun is fired like lasers are. shells are going to have to cover that distance in about 2-3 seconds before the target moves too much. there are multiple different shell types to throw downrange but to make life simple let's assume kinetic slugs are the round of choice. feel free to ignore the turret weight as that's built into the ship whether you use it or not.
in the game a 1400 mm arty takes up 50 cubic metres and weighs an entirely ludicrous (tiny) amount. you also get multiple shots per cubic metre of ammo carried somehow.
the game was designed by some people in iceland who have made some quite amazingly dubious decisions about how things should work in game. for instance ship drives have top speeds where acceleration stops. love to hear the explanation for that one.

This should be quite interesting, gonna take me a little time to do as the horrible thing called work is keeping me pretty busy! Gonna treat it as an em rail gun as that gives me more options to manage recoil forces by nature of tuning the acceleration profile/duration etc. This will be considerably lighter than treating as a explosively propelled projectile as to design a pressure vessel capable of withistandign the pressure required to accelerate the projectile to the required velocity would just get stupid!!!!

these weapons are cartridge based oversized arty pieces. they have rail guns in the game and they are just about as silly for stats.
