Subject: Canada Bashing

As a proud canadian solider who has lost fellow soldiers on the war on terrorism.... I have to say I am ashamed of the way continental Americans bash Canadians. I say continental Americans becasue these are the citizens that dont travel that dont see the outside world. Those americans that have worked with canadian soldiers (101, 82, Ranger Reg., Delta and the Air Force (top guns are sometimes Canadians) and the Navy (we are the only foriegn nation that is allowed to work within an american carrier group, basically the Canadian frigates become American task force ships for the mission) all these groups orginizations have respect to Canada as we have respect for the orginizatiosn that we are associated with. On September 11 the US had no better friend than canada (from flights landing in such places as Gander, Newfoundland) also one only has to look at Norad. We are a small nation 32 million (same size as California, Mexico city, greater New York city, greater London, New Delhi, Tokyo and Chairo to name a few). America trades more with these 32 million people than the entire Japanese population, Germany, Britain, and the entire contienent fo South America and Africa. Now we are asked to do alot with our political and economic power....unfortunatly after the cold war Canada armed forces (total was reduced from 110 000 to its size now 50 000). We can do many missions and are doing many now. Unfortunatly we dont have the staying power to provide more support. Alas im not a politcian I am a soldier. But the next time soem says canada sucks....or doesnt think we hold our end up (we probably dont)... we are doing the best we can. When you see the dead Canadian blood in Bosnia, Afghanistan, Haiti, Golan Heights, and many other missions aroudn the world think where is the New York City police department (they have more front line troops than canada), where are the mexicans, where are the brazilians, where are the Russians, where are the Indians? America has no better friend than the country of Canada..we have our problems as you do.... but through every honourable war we were with you. Also remember that Canada has never lost a war ever... We are a cautious and careful and more socialized people (gay marriages, marijuana laws, higher taxes, welfare, etc). We will be with you during any fight with real ememies (Al Queida, Japenese, Germans, North Korea). Next time you see America and its new lover Britan in the news think that canada has always been the mistress but on our own terms

as a fella Canadian I must say it goes both ways. I have had enough of the booing of the US nat'l anthem at sporting events even children's sporting venues. Poor kids from Massach last winter getting booed! I know you do not condone that and I abhore the situation. Remember too many Canadians are always whining about the US and are envious, I have lived in Philadelphia and in Europe also..seen nothing but bad comments from Canadians. It is also the same whiny Canadians who are envious of the American dream, and if USA had not been around in ww2, we would be occupied! So as a Canaidan I am embaressed by the pacifist nation that does not support America's fight to combat terror overseas. Also I do not approve of how Canucks boo, bash American foreign policy.. from a Montrealer who is a conservative. ps Goo Eagles (Philadelphia) this time no more chokesteaks pls..

Kuznet the americans sat out the first half the war. they didn't enter into until forced by the jappanese. yes they did make a material difference in how long the war lasted and their absence would have hurt. It would not have made any real difference though to the ultimate outcome . they would have added a year possibly two to the duration before the russian army crushed germany.

Canada most certainly does not suck. Canadians are intelligent, compassionate, good-natured people, a true success story in the modern world, unique among nations; I see bright things for Canada.

PPaul, I have always valued the friendship and close relationship between Canada and the US -- Canada is the best friend America has in the Western hemisphere, and I want you to know that the great majority of Americans do value this, at least from my experiences. Bashing Canada is simply shooting at the wrong target, in my opinion. When I was in the USN, we held several joint exercises that included parts of the Canadian Navy. Canadian forces were, and still are, professional, well trained, motivated, and worked well with our units. I do bemoan, however, the fact that Canadian governments in recent years have allowed the Canadian military to 'wither on the vine': underfunded, underpaid, too few spare parts, and little if any badly needed new equipment & weapon systems -- of course you can attest to these items better than anyone here, I think. I hope this changes. The war against terror is not going to be a short and simple affair --it is going to require staying power, with well-equipped and well-motivated forces. If the armed forces of Canada are neglected for much longer, morale may start to slip, and that is a bad thing for a professional army. Canada also needs access to newer military technology, which is both a force multiplier, a life-saver, and boosts morale. I did,and still do, support my Presidents decision to remove Saddam, and at least attempt to introduce some form of democracy into the Arab states of the Mid-East. I hold no grudge to Canadians who disagree with this view, unless they do so with malice or vindictiveness -- but I point out to all that this is just the beginning. With or without involvement in Iraq, Canada will be needed in the very long, and perhaps very bloody, fight against this cancer that has seeped from its hiding places around the world. I think the Canadian military will be ready for this war -- I just hope Canadians and Canadian politicians are. Hell, I hope we all are... NewGuy

as a Canadian I once again fully support the war on Terror led by the Bush admin. Ok I am a conservative and I have always supported since the reagan era. I went to Kennebunkport ME to see the summer compound of the Bush's> nice!! Let me say once again I agree we need to develop closer ties, and we have to open our oil reserves in Alberta to help North America stay independant from mid east supply pressures. We have in Alberta the 2nd largest oil reserves after the Saudis, hey forget the powerball or 6/49 we may be rich lol!! So my fella Americans/Canadians we must help ourselves since the Europeans and Chinese and mideasts are going to compete fiscally, and politically with us. from the Montrealer who loves the Philadelphia Eagles,,MIDNIGHT GREEN ROXX

Our F-18's are falling apart, and this nonsense of getting strykers for armor...ugh.. Our hellos are useless, our navy is dying, and our army needs to be beefed up to 120,000 min. We used to have CV's, a large army and over 300 combat planes...o well..
