couple bits picked up from watching the tourney so far. seems canadians like their beer a whole lot. in the first two games of the round robin played by canada beer sales surpassed the entire season of the university team. they had to bring in emergency shipments of beer on boxing day. they also sold out of the red, white and blue pompoms but the bulk of buyers were canadians who tore off the blue ribbons endearing themselves no end to the cleaning crews. the canadian team also convincingly beat the old record for scoring goals and for not being scored on. finishing the round robin at +27.

nother bit of trivia is that despite the games being played several hundred miles south of the border and grim weather conditions more canadians attended the games than americans. next year the games will be in Vancouver, kelowna and i think nelson and it's expected they will all be sell outs.

"Several hundred miles south of the border"? You had better consult a map. “More Canadian than Americans”? I should think so, since the Canadians were winning and have twice the population within a two-hour drive (which includes Winnipeg). Winnipeg alone has a greater population than all of North Dakota. "Grim weather conditions?" Not really, just cold and icy – in other words, normal for this time of year. The people in this neck of the woods are a hardy type on both sides of the border. Congratulations on the Gold, the Canadian deserved it this year, especially after the performance of the Russians.

On a more serious not kudos to Canada - saw a few of the games here in the lower 48. Was fun till the US choked. Nice change of pace from the NHL reruns all of the regional stations are showing. A teammate of mine who is a grad student at Stanford got tix and went to the finals... Nice not to have a real job to be able to pull something like that off! .

the tournament was in south dakota which involves a drive through north dakota to get there which was a fair drive last i made it. the weather conditions were bad enough that they closed the highway north and put up a bunch of canadians in the local football arena for a night. bad storm whited out the highway that night and the weather was generally foul from what the broadcast guys said.

lucky sod i would have loved to be there for the final game. i really wish the nhl would play on an international size rink and taking the centre line out really would improve the game as well.
