http://abcnews.go.com/Business/wireStory?id=12114453 WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Lockheed Martin Corp is to develop within 2 1/2 years a new long-range anti-ship missile, the Defense Department said on Wednesday. The work falls under a $157.7 million contract from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, or DARPA, which has been responsible for some of the Pentagon's biggest technology breakthroughs, including the Internet's precursor. The goal is to develop rapidly and demonstrate a ship-launched weapon that can knock out other ships "at significant stand-off ranges," an item in the Pentagon's daily contract digest said, without elaborating. ============ For that amount of money and short time frame, I wonder what the missile system is based on.

I think we have an explanation to what was flying high 35 miles away from LA two days ago.

Somebody should call Lockheed instead of the USAF and the USN.

'twould be swell if true, especially given Chinese behavior, but after reviewing video of the "mystery" object I believe the jet contrail/illusion explanation.  I personally have witnessed similar, the aspect that threw me was the declarative statement re coordinates of origin 35 miles offshore, I took this positional fix as confirmed and it was mere supposition.  DARPA would have NOTAM'd at least two grids, and an actual missile would have tracked across pixels faster than the video shows.  Pike is correct.  0.02
