Great news indeed, just watched the official statement from the President - This could be a turning point - Bin Laden has been an ideological figurehead to extremism completely without parallel - that he could be located and killed will remove some of the mystique that his patronage of terrorism brought.

 

I await someone finding an interesting way to somehow turn this into a sleight against Obama - he was very keen to take responsibility for planning the operation in the statement he gave - potentially a major boon to his reelection campaign.

 

And irrespective of the above, a great day to know that justice was done, and I don't mind admitting that I hope he suffered.

It would've been better to take Bin Laden alive and put him on trial. They could have finally dispelled the conspiracy theories surrounding the 9/11 attacks, as well as prevent the Islamic extremists from turning him into a matyr.

I understand the desire to take him alive.  It would have been nice to put him on trial, just to remind every one what a monster he was.  But I can see the trial turning into a circus.  I'm sure much of the evidence would not be admisable because it was not obtained via legal means, no search warrants, miranda rights, etc...  Also, security would have been a nightmare. His presence would have inspired how many attacks just to free him?

 

In the end it is better this way.

Herald, I've changed my opinion of you from thinking that you are a mildly amusing idiot to knowing that you are a complete f*cking moron. Public Enemy Number One for the last decade, who is directly or indirectly responsible for the deaths of thousands of your fellow Americans, as well as many thousands more Worldwide including hundreds from my country, has just been wiped off the face of this earth. This is probably the biggest coup in US and World security since the end of the Cold War, and the first thing you start to do is to try and downplay the achievement because you don't like the President who achieved it.

Your behavior is basically the same as pissing on the graves of the dead American's and other free citizens who have just been vindicated. Shame on you.
