Some of the most important findings of the hearing and the investigative report compiled by the Committee staff include:

  • BATFE knowingly allowed as many as 2,500 firearms to be sold illegally to known or suspected straw purchasers. One of those purchasers accounted for over 700 illegal guns.
  • BATFE ordered its agents working the program not to arrest illegal gun buyers or to interdict thousands of guns that were allowed to “walk” into criminal hands.
  • Senior BATFE officials in Washington were regularly briefed on the operation and approved of the tactics employed.
  • BATFE agents who opposed the operation and who raised objections were told to “get with the program” and threatened with job retaliation if they continued their opposition.

NRA-ILA Executive Director Chris W. Cox Calls for Expedited Hearings into BATFE Investigative Tactics

On March 9, NRA-ILA Executive Director Chris W. Cox sent letters to key leaders in Congress calling for hearings to examine the firearms trafficking investigations tactics employed by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Those tactics have allegedly allowed firearms to fall into the hands of Mexican criminal organizations, with the knowledge of the BATFE.

In the letters sent to House Judiciary Committee Chairman Lamar Smith (R-Texas) and Ranking Member, John Conyers (D-Mich.) and their counterparts in the U.S. Senate, Chairman Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) and Ranking Member Charles Grassley (R-Iowa), Cox wrote that the BATFE project 'reportedly allowed over 2,000 firearms to be sold to individuals already linked to Mexican drug cartels. Many of those transactions were reported as suspicious by the licensed firearms dealers themselves, but BATFE reportedly encouraged them to proceed with these sales, which the dealers would otherwise have turned down.'

Cox also called on the committees to look into the BATFE responses to inquiries about these suspect programs, stating 'Any investigation should also examine the responses by the BATFE and the Department of Justice to earlier congressional inquiries about the ‘Fast and Furious’ program.'"

Letter

"Their project—known as "Fast and Furious" and apparently conducted over the strong objections of rank and file agents—reportedly allowed over 2,000 firearms to be sold to individuals already linked to Mexican drug cartels. Many of those transactions were reported assuspicious by the licensed firearms dealers themselves, but BATFE reportedly encouraged themto proceed with these sales, which the dealers would otherwise have turned down. Hundreds of those guns have reportedly been traced to criminal activity so far, including two that were discovered at the scene of a shootout that claimed the life of a U.S. Border Patrol agent.

It's tragically ironic that while this plan was apparently unraveling, the BATFE was also seeking White House approval to demand reporting of certain multiple rifle sales. That reporting requirement would flood the agency with even more reports of legal transactions, while likely driving criminal traffickers further underground.

We are clearly at a critical point on this issue. Without aggressive enforcement of existing laws, the situation on the border will continue to deteriorate, claiming the lives of innocent citizens and law enforcement personnel alike. Yet reckless enforcement tactics may already have cost lives, while ineffective regulatory requirements would waste scarce resources and undermine Americans' Second Amendment rights.

Oversight that agencies very the by conducted be not should problems serious these of reportedly created them. Therefore, we respectfully urge you to use every power at your disposal to review the BATFE's investigative tactics and regulatory proposals with respect to southwest border issues."

As usual the lamestream media is covering up this, and Jon Steward is doing what's best to make it seem like a blunder rather than a conspiracy to infringe 2nd Amendment.

John Mitchell was indicted and convicted of obstructing justice. Same should be done to Eric Holder. Some justice has to be done to the schmuck lamestream media for covering this by bombarding us with a child murder case.

Seems that Melson does not want to be the "Fall Guy" for things that he has very little to do with.

Meanwhile in Mexico, according to Washington Times:

Meanwhile Thursday, Mexican police released a videotaped interview of Jesus Enrique Rejon Aguilar, in which the recently captured No. 3 leader of the Los Zetas drug cartel said “all the weapons” the Zetas use were “bought in the United States” and that “even the American government itself was selling the weapons.”

No matter how I look at it, it seems somebody in DOJ or even higher pulled this plan right out of conspiracy theorist's plot book.

Obama Administration Plans New Gun
Control
Friday, July 08, 2011

As we pass the six-month anniversary of the tragic Tucson shooting, multiple
press reports indicate the Obama administration is planning to unveil new, but
unspecified, gun control initiatives.

At a Thursday briefing, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said, "As you
know, the President directed the Attorney General to form working groups with
key stakeholders to identify common-sense measures that would improve Americans'
safety and security while fully respecting Second Amendment rights.  That
process is well underway at the Department of Justice with stakeholders on all
sides working through these complex issues. And we expect to have some more
specific announcements in the near future."

Carney provided no further details on the initiatives, but he isn't the only
one saying something is in the works.  According to a related http://www.npr.org/2011/07/08/137687203/gun-control-advocates-chide-obama-for-inaction" href="http://www.npr.org/2011/07/08/137687203/gun-control-advocates-chide-obama-for-inaction">article
on NPR.org, U.S. Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-N.Y.) said, “I have spoken to the
president. He is with me on [gun control], and it's just going to be when that
opportunity comes forward that we're going to be able to go forward.” And
longtime anti-gun activist Sarah Brady has said
that in March, the president told her “I just want you to know that
we are working on [gun control] ... We have to go through a few processes, but
under the radar.”

Rest assured we'll report any significant developments in the weeks
ahead.

With the scandal of Operation Fast and Furious running bigger and bigger, they have the audacity to talk about gun control? Amazing! The delusion of this administration is way beyond comprehension.

Holder Launches Witch Hunt Against Biased Banks

In what could be a repeat of the easy-lending cycle that led to the housing crisis, the Justice Department has asked several banks to relax their mortgage underwriting standards and approve loans for minorities with poor credit as part of a new crackdown on alleged discrimination, according to court documents reviewed by IBD.

Prosecutions have already generated more than $20 million in loan set-asides and other subsidies from banks that have settled out of court rather than battle the federal government and risk being branded racist. An additional 60 banks are under investigation, a DOJ spokeswoman says.

CJH    Documents: ATF used "Fast and Furious" to make the case for gun regulations   12/11/2011 7:41:46 PM

ATF officials didn't intend to publicly disclose their own role in letting Mexican cartels obtain the weapons, but emails show they discussed using the sales, including sales encouraged by ATF, to justify a new gun regulation called "Demand Letter 3". That would require some U.S. gun shops to report the sale of multiple rifles or "long guns." Demand Letter 3 was so named because it would be the third ATF program demanding gun dealers report tracing information.

On July 14, 2010 after ATF headquarters in Washington D.C. received an update on Fast and Furious, ATF Field Ops Assistant Director Mark Chait emailed Bill Newell, ATF's Phoenix Special Agent in Charge of Fast and Furious:

"Bill - can you see if these guns were all purchased from the same (licensed gun dealer) and at one time. We are looking at anecdotal cases to support a demand letter on long gun multiple sales. Thanks."

For gun owners, one of the most alarming and telling statements from Holder during the entire hearing was when he stated, "This administration has consistently favored the reinstitution of the assault weapons ban, it is something that we think was useful in the past with regard to the reduction that we've seen in crime and certainly would have a positive impact on our relationship and the crime situation in Mexico."  How renewing this misguided ban would have prevented the Administration’s lack of judgment in overseeing a gun running operation, though, is not clear.
